HIS BIOLOGICAL FATHER IS CHARLIE MANSON

There were a lot of news articles on line to pick from but this one from THE SUN, has great photos showing the likeness that confirms that Charlie Manson, the infamous head of the Manson Family and Los Angeles DJ Matthew Roberts are father and son.

I'm posting this, not for the lurid aspect of this breaking news, but because adopted as children, many people feel it is important to find their real parents. It varies from state to state and the laws and contracts at the time of adoption, but through adoption registry sites, at the age of 18 a child can post seeking a parent.

This has to be one of the more rewarding areas of genealogical research for me, but at this point this is my advice to Matthew Roberts. Even when all paperwork and looks are persuasive, get a DNA test that confirms the match!

ANCESTRAL ALTARS and FENG SHUI IS IT ALL SUPERSTITION

I was recently reading about Feng Shui, the art of placement of furniture, the use of color and accessories in Interior Design, and setting up altars for the purpose of honoring the ancestors.

Some highly educated people are making a living as Feng Shui practitioners. It involves numerology, measurements, and compass directions to determine the look of a room.

Feng Shui is based on a Chinese folk belief system that statues are portals of energy that ancestors or deities actually visit. The altar itself represents your connection to the ancestor, though actual photos of them are not allowed. Photos are said to prolong the grieving process but other mementos or hand made items that remind you of them, such as calligraphy on paper, are considered proper.

Setting up the altar requires knowing the most auspicious date to do so based on the ancestors birth date. Then the niche is to placed in quietude and well lit.

Is the idea that various energies must be balanced and that evil influences can be at play in your life if you happen to have clutter, or thrift shop store treasures that harbor bad vibes, or a bed facing the wrong direction just superstition?

Chinese-American genealogy, like European, can be traced using all American records but usually goes back to a ship manifest. Based on the ship manifest details, finding the place the person left on a map, is the next step. San Francisco libraries may have special resources for the Chinese-American but to my knowledge the country of China is not open with sharing records there unless you travel to China and are given special considerations.

IF ANYONE READING THIS BLOG HAS GONE TO CHINA and KNOWS THEIR WAY AROUND THE GENEALOGY RESEARCH RESOURCES THERE, please write to us!

CZAR PETER

Did you ancestors live under a King, a Czar, a Prince or Princess, or a local Count? Or were they aristocrats and rulers themselves? (Pay attention to the history of the region they came from and learn who was ruling their lives.)

Many towns that were under occupation have changed names several times. For instance, some places in Central and Eastern Europe have names in German, Polish, Russian, and local languages. Likewise, the records you are seeking may be moved from one archive to another. In some European countries, records were kept by the Catholic church for many villages, because the priest may have been the only person who could read and write - and your ancestor need not have been a Catholic to be recorded.

In the United States large counties were split into smaller ones as populations increased. Don't get "county bound" and research paths of migration.

Look4Cash.com

According to this site, Mislaid Cash, Checks, Deposits, Securities, Refunds, and More can be claimed from State and Federal Treasuries.

Several years ago I found $700 for a rich guy using various sites and links. Us poor ones didn't find a dime waiting for us. The rich guy didn't get around to paying me. The poor ones did.

If you find some money owned you, use it all for archival fees!
