THE HISTORY OF WHITE PEOPLE by NELL IRVIN PAINTER : BOOK REVIEW by ANCESTRY WORSHIP GENEALOGY

I've been reading NELL IRVIN PAINTER's book "The History of White People" which is Copyright 2010 and published by W.W. Norton and Company. I'll be sprinking this blog with excerpts from that book here and there.

This is the story of European slavery ("Whites enslaving Whites"), class in Europe and America, which included indentured servants and slaves, and the notions of who was more worthy.

There was a progression of early theorists who decided that being low class had everything to do with intelligence and character as genetic; the "imbeciles" and "morons" and "the unfit" were the target of sterilization for the good of society. ( I note: This is the danger of genealogy motivated by snobbery!)

Painter does an excellent job of reporting the notions of race or ethnicity as individuals are considered to be of more or less worthy because of these notions. Racism was inherent in the descriptions of Europeans as "Nordic" or "Alpine" or "Mediterranean" as determined by physical features rather than country of origin.

This book may remind you of your own bad experiences or what your ancestors experienced because of their origins.

Perhaps they were considered of subnormal intelligence and not up to decent jobs because they were Italian or Slovak?

Are you yourself still experiencing intolerance and prejudice based, not on your character or deeds, but because of your ethnicity?

FROM LIFE BETWEEN LIFE by JOEL L. WHITTON and JOE FISHER

LIFE BETWEEN LIFE
Scientific Explorations Into the Void Separating One Incarnation From the Next!

"Dr. Edith Fiore reported in 1978 that some of her subjects ventured into the interim between lives to find "pure energy and light" while others saw "beautiful lakes, beautiful scenes, gleaming cities"

There was also mentions of encounters with "planners" or a "board of advisers" who assisted in the choice of the next incarnation which, in some case, was preceded by the soul "hovering" over its mother before birth. In 1979, the results of mass hypnotic studies conducted by Dr. Helen Wambach, a San Francisco clinical psychologist, indicated that most people chose to be born even though they would rather remain in the "lightness and the love" of the between-life-state. Dr. Wamback's subjects told of having no gender in the place between lives and mentioned, in many cases, that they had agreed reluctantly to reincarnate after consultation with "advisers," "a board," or "a group of authorities."

TRICKY! SITUATION IN GENEALOGY : MYTH MAKING RELATIVES

One project I'm working on requires that I go against a myth that a woman created long ago to hide the fact that she was married after she became pregnant. Today this is common statistically (as is unwed motherhood) in the United States. But even today among more conservative or religious people it is a rarity. Even today many Westerners believe that they should wait until they are married to have sex (and since most Americans STILL marry in their early twenties this may not be so difficult!) Many more believe that contraception is a responsibility until the couple can afford a child or children. So for many such behavior is a shame. This woman who has spent a life hiding her before marriage pregnancy was born in the 1920's and was pregnant in the 1940's. My research will blast apart a mountain of lies. But that is not my intention. My intention is to prove the facts with documents. Not only was the 50th anniversary of this couple (You would think that 50 years together might absolve some sins!) celebrated by her family on a day that has nothing to do with the real date and well past the birth date of her daughter (excuse - a surprise party) but the invitations were carefully worded and designed not to mention any dates at all. Genealogy research must be proven (fact checked) and such lies cannot stand in published research.
