ANN FESSLER INTERVIEW ; THE GIRLS WHO WENT AWAY : BIRTH MOTHERS WHO GAVE THEIR BABIES UP FOR ADOPTION

As she talks about how horrible it was for women who got pregnant when not married in the 1950's and 1960's, it came to me that it was the same way in the 1970's and even today, depending on where a person lives, what religion the family is, and so on.

THE 800 WOMEN WHO FRENCH CANADIANS ARE DESCENDED FROM

CBC : MOST FRENCH CANADIANS DESCENT FROM 800 WOMEN   Excellent article!

Fur traders and missionaries needed wives and so here came the orphans and the adventurers, ready to take their chances. France decided to appeal to the women through clever marketing, calling them an honorific "Daughters of the King."  One in ten didn't survive the journey across the ocean.  Unlike most women, however, a possible positive was that they got to choose their husbands.  There were about 3000 to choose from.

Excerpt:  For the 800 women who make it, France pays for the women's passage and provides a dowry from the royal treasury.  The women are also given a hope chest containing, among other things, a pair of hose, a pair of shoes, a bonnet, gloves, a comb, a belt and various sewing supplies.

(The dowry was essential for marriage in France.  It came to about $1000. today.)

Excerpt: Two-thirds of toay's French-Canadians can trace their ancestry back to one of these 800 women.  Their influence was felt outside Quebec, as well. Some famous Americans also claim a Fille du Roi as an ancestor, including Hilary Clinton, Madonna, and Angela Jolie.

TERESA WEILER'S TESTIMONIAL ON BEING A CHILD OF INCEST, MEETING HER BIRTH PARENTS, and WHY SHE CHOSE NOT TO HAVE CHILDREN

DAILY MAIL : I COULDN'T HAVE CHILDREN BECAUSE  from December 2022, Teresa Weiler wrote this testimonial published by Daily Mail. It is her story of discovering she was born due to brother-sister incest and how this knowledge strongly influenced her choices to not also have children.

As I read this I felt for her, very much so, but I also wish she had been better informed in youth.  I'm not sure that if she had children they would be "monsters."  And I think she might have benefited from counseling.

Last year I met a woman who is good friends with a woman who has a few children that are the result of her father having sex with her as a teenager.  I was told these children were prospering and that their mother was fine. It was told to me by someone who is anti-abortion, perhaps as an example of how well things can turn out.  But when this same woman told me that children of incest never suffer I had to question that.  I said I knew of a family in which there had been first cousin marriages through the generations and they had all sorts of mental illness, learning disabilities, and developmental delays...  They said it was to keep the land in their family in Europe. Though for two generations the immigrants children had married outside that close family, these medical issues were not resolved.  (And I was there when the immigrant grandparents were trying to "match-make" their grand-daughter with a cousin as if they had lived in America for years!)

I also thought of the ancient royal Egyptians who did have genetic negatives from close interbreeding.

Today, however, should you be concerned about passing down genetic issues to your offspring, there is genetic testing and counseling.

And, I won't say "there's always adoption," as I realize from friends that it has gotten expensive and difficult.  However, if you do love children, there are other ways that a person can get involved with children in education, in fostering, and in volunteer work.

KING CHARLES III and QUEEN CAMILLA

The Colonial states declare their independence from England decades ago,
yet, as we go back those decades doing our American genealogy,
we often encounter roots in Britain - England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland and
"cross the ocean" to archives there.

As distanced as we Americans are,
many of our ancestors lived under a King or Queen, an Emperor,
or lived in a princely kingdom,
or were of the nobility, or lived on the land of one as a tenant farmer, or a serf.

We grew up with fairy tales, stories of Princesses and Princes of days gone by.

So, we cannot be ignorant of that history or the old ways in which our people
survived or thrived.

King Charles III's Coronation might be the only one some of us will ever witness - via televised film - in our own lifetimes.

The splendor!

I'm curious - and am be watching.

As he says, it's not likely that many of the invitees to King Charles III's coronation will be wearing the garments of the peerage, signaling to all who can read the codes, but here he details of their traditional garments worn for special events in the history of Britain.

This station is simply full of wonderful information!

KING CHARLES III CORONATION - THE FANTASTICAL GREEN MAN INVITE TO 2000 - HAND PAINTED!

Those of you who love the design and interpretation of Coat of Arms - Heraldry - as one of the oldest European traditions - will love the fantastical Green Man invite to Charles III Coronation which takes place May 6th - English time.

I will be watching.

It's not that I'm an Anglophile, because I  .  However, this is a historical event and one that has not taken place in England for 70 years, since his mother Queen Elizabeth's, and it's televised.  Promising a smaller, perhaps updated and more modern version of a coronation, Charles, who long awaited his time to be King, seems to have sought ways to remain Royal as well as being well situated in today's world with climate change and ecology one of his long time concerns. He also said once that he was a guardian of the faiths, not just England's version of Protestantism, showing sensitivity to Britain's citizenry.

I watched Diana and Charles' wedding. I watched Diana's funeral, getting up in the middle of the night to watch it live. I watched much of the Queen's funeral. In the past I read a few books about the Royal family, including Kitty Kelley's expose. I watch the series, The Crown, which I think is terrific; I don't expect accuracy out of biopic's, I figure there is lots of theory and interpretation in film making. And of course it helps that it's all in English, the official language of the United States too.

If you think that it's just Americans a bit obsessed with what happens over there across "the pond" (The Atlantic Ocean) and with one of the last acknowledged Royal families of Europe and on this earth, even Americans with no English or British ancestry, think about this. British are obsessed with American politics and our legal system. We, along with Canada, have never lost our connections that began with immigration from that island to the America's.

This image of the Coronation invite appears on The Guardian.

Called NeoPagan and Puckish, here is the article about heraldry artist Andrew Jamieson's hand painted invitations which is quite funny :

Excerpt:  However you read its springtime symbolism, the coronation invitation is a witty, skilled performance that speaks well of King Charles III's feel for art and sense of humour, as well as Jamieson's talent. Now all we need is a maypole outside Westminster Abbey.

****
P.S. Maypole for the month of May, and May the month for Blessed Mother and all mothers.  Let's clarify that mothering, nurturing, is not exclusive of those who give birth or who have or raise children.

TITLES OF NOBILITY?

Nobility titles and ranks vary depending on the country or ruling country. Of interest is also the history of when a title was invented. Usually a prevailing King or Queen could elevate a person to the peerage, as a reward, traditionally for defending their rulership through military service.  However,t some families were so established long ago, the reasons why they are considered royal, or aristocracy, or noble, may be lost. They may have been from a founding tribe or clan, or have won or acquired great wealth and power. When men died out, the line might have been transferred through a woman's line. Hard to argue with someone who can build a fortress of stone when you live in a wood hut.

That changed in recent time to a reward for noteworthy success, consider the various celebrity entertainers such as musicians and actors who became Sir's during Queen Elizabeth's reign...  Sir Paul McCartney (James Paul McCartney) for an example.  However, very many of those who she elevated were known for service to the Kingdom or humanity, such as Sir Bob Geldof  (  Robert Frederick Zenon Geldof.)  Their wives are known as Ladies.

There are two types of peers who can be elevated.

Those who were born into it are recognized as HEREDITARY peers.

Those who were not, are called LIFE peers.
